Who is the beast of the NFC East?

We will get at least part of the answer on Saturday when the New York Giants visit the Philadelphia Eagles for the Divisional Playoffs.

It will be the third meeting this year between the long-time rivals.

In Week 14, the Eagles smoked the Giants, 48-22, at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants lost again in Week 18, falling 22-16 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Saturday’s winner will move on to the NFC Championship and will face either the San Francisco 49ers or Dallas Cowboys. That means the title game could be another NFC East trifecta.

Giants vs. Cowboys in 2022:

Dallas def. New York, 23-16, in Week 3 at MetLife Stadium

Dallas def. New York, 28-20, on Thanksgiving at AT&T Stadium

Eagles vs. Cowboys in 2022:

The Giants last faced the Cowboys in the playoffs in 2008, winning 21-17 in the divisional round, on their way to Super Bowl XLII, where they upset the New England Patriots, 17-14.

Cowboys’ NFC Championship history vs. Eagles, Giants:

The Eagles faced the Cowboys in the NFC Championship in 1981, winning 20-7, on their way to Super Bowl XV, which they lost to the Oakland Raiders, 27-10.

The Giants have never faced the Cowboys for the NFC Title.

Oh, and by the way, Pro Football Talk reports one division having three teams reach the divisional round hasn’t happened since the league expanded in 2002.

The last time three teams from one division made the divisional round was after the 1997 season, when the NFC Central did it.
